SEO …Your Doin’ it Wrong
Are you trying to use scare tactics to ward off your competition?
Things like buying your competition brands names on Pay Per Click are never a good practice. It’s always best to brand your web site as YOUR web site. Especially when someone clicks on that other brand name link and ends up your site, they may think you are not playing fair.
Luckily though, there are some real simple ways to tell if you are SEOing incorrectly.
Knowing your doing SEO wrong is kinda like using Jeff Foxworthy's social commentary to tell if you're a redneck....”you might be a redneck if...you own a homemade fur coat”. Only harder. SEO is a more subtle art.
You Know You're Doing SEO Wrong IF...
- Your keywords are being stuffed into your website more than a Thanksgiving turkey.
- Your keywords are hidden more than broccoli on a child’s plate.
- You use more cloaking than a medieval prince.
- You redirect traffic more than an air traffic controller.
- You have cloned more sites than gene researchers have cloned sheep.
- You stuffed links on your page like they were clown in a clown car.
- You paid for more links than Charlie Sheen has hookers.
- You have ad-only pages like your site's a human billboard-styled advertising.
- You duplicate content more than a Copy Center employee.
- You use more domain names than a phishing site.
- You use more deceptive headlines than the National Enquirer.
- You use separate content (for search engines and users) like its conjoined twins.
- You buy links like they are discounted cupcakes at a bake sale.
- You spam your alt tags and title tags like they're a late 90s Hotmail user.
- You spin articles like they're dreidels on Hannukah.
- You mirror websites like they are going out of style.
- You redirect URLs like a bored traffic cop.
- You throw away domains like dirty diapers.
You automate your Twitter feed so much that it looks like a Griswold Christmas tree.
SEO isn't rocket science, but it is a science. And like most sciences, it uses common sense. Too much of something isn't a good thing, like throngs of links or keywords. Other things just shouldn't be done at all, like duplicating content, spamming, mirroring, and cloning. Just use your common sense, if it feels shady it probably is.
